Toccoa River Trout Fishing The Toccoa River is one of the most heavily state stocked rivers in the state of Georgia. The Toccoa River flows from South to North and originates in the Chattahoochee National Forest and stretches nearly 60 miles from its headwaters near the town of Suches to where it crosses the state line into Tennessee. Near the town of Blue Ridge the TVA created the manmade Lake Blue Ridge back in the early 30's. Above Lake Blue Ridge, the Toccoa River is a pretty typical North Georgia trout stream. However, below the Dam is an exceptionally good tail water fishery. The outflow of the lake is crystal clear cold water with a high oxygen content making the Lower Toccoa one of the healthiest trout fisheries in the state.

The Upper Toccoa has plenty of public access points in the USFS and is a very popular destination for those wanting easy car access to the river. The lower Toccoa is surrounded by private land and only has 3 public access points: Tammen Park, Curtis Switch Bridge and Horseshoe Bend Park. Most of the guide services offer full and half day float trips to access the best fishing spots on the tail water. Warning to those unfamiliar with a tail water fishery, the water can rise suddenly so it is a good idea to check the dams release schedule. You can do so at

Mountaintown Creek is absolutely one of North Georgia's most beautiful, wilderness trout streams. Mountaintown Creek originates in the Cohutta Wilderness and offers cool, clear trout water before merging with the Coosawattee River in western Gilmer County. Of the most notable features of Mountaintown Creek are the huge boulders which create noisy, cascading whitewater. Mountaintown Creek is one of the most picturesque creek settings in all of North Georgia.

While the headwaters off Hwy 52 West are typical of the smaller Georgia creeks, don't let the word "Creek" fool you. This section of Mountaintown creek is very wide and has the natural beauty of the most secluded parts of the Toccoa River.
